Course Description 6th Grade:
Each student is introduced to a wide variety of technology systems in an integrated, experience-based instructional program designed to prepare them to become knowledgeable about technology—its evolution, systems, techniques, utilization and social and cultural significance. This process is embodied through the application of math and science concepts in specific, in-depth technology systems. Students discover, create, solve problems and construct by using a variety of resources, machines, materials, processes, and computer systems. The modules students have the option of completing include Aerospace, Engineering Structures, Graphic Design, Alternate Energy, Power and Energy, Communication, Desktop Publishing, and Aerodynamic Principles. Construction and CAD, Environmental Management and Mechanisms are also available if students are up for the challenge. Students begin each module with a pretest followed by an overview of their module. They complete a real life system simulation, hands on activities, problem solving, career exploration and finish with a post test. The grade for a module comes from an individual packet, projects, print outs, online journal questions, and a post test.
